AL DUQM: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones inaugurated two major road network projects in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm — the dual carriageway of Sultan Said bin Taimur Road (National Road No 32 South) and the Ras Markaz dual carriageway.

Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy, said that transport infrastructure projects form a cornerstone of economic and social development plans, enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy and supporting investment growth.

He noted that road projects play a vital role in strengthening trade and logistical connectivity between various economic projects, improving service efficiency for investors and enabling growth in tourism, industrial and commercial sectors.

Eng Ahmed bin Ali Akak, CEO of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, said the zone now benefits from a highly efficient road network connecting residential, commercial and investment areas, contributing to improved quality of life and investor confidence.

He explained that works on internal roads in the new Sai commercial area were completed in 2025, while construction continues on the dual coastal road in the tourist area to link it with the fishing port and fish and food industries complex.

Akak added that the benefits of road projects extend beyond infrastructure development to include support for small and medium enterprises, which have benefited from business opportunities generated during construction.

The two road projects span approximately 67 kilometres, including service roads, full lighting systems, smart traffic signal intersections, fibre-optic connectivity, rainwater drainage structures and protective safety barriers. — ONA
