SUHAR: International educational studies are playing an increasingly important role in strengthening learning outcomes in Al Batinah North Governorate, moving beyond examination purposes to become tools for evaluating education quality, enhancing teaching methods and preparing students for future challenges.
The governorate’s participation in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 2023) involved students from Grades 4 and 8 and recorded notable progress.
Fourteen schools achieved advanced performance levels, reflecting sustained preparation, continuous teacher training and student-centred learning approaches.
Ahmed al Amri, Director of the Measurement and Educational Evaluation Department, said the positive outcomes were the result of systematic planning and data-driven preparation. Schools were supported through specialised training workshops, practice assessments and in-depth analysis of previous international results.
“International studies help us measure real learning and identify areas for improvement,” he said, adding that the results confirm an improvement in students’ achievement in mathematics and science.
School leaders described the recognition as both an honour and a motivation. One of the honoured principals said the achievement was the outcome of teamwork and long-term commitment.
“This recognition encourages teachers and students to continue striving for excellence and to approach future international assessments with confidence,” the principal said.
Educators also highlighted the impact on students, noting that early exposure to international-style questions improved critical thinking and reduced reliance on rote memorisation.
Parents observed similar benefits. A parent of a Grade 4 student said the experience changed children’s attitudes towards learning.
“My child became more interested in understanding concepts, not just preparing for exams,” the parent said, noting that schools actively involved families throughout the preparation process.
Through continued engagement with international studies, Al Batinah North Governorate is strengthening education quality, boosting student confidence, and aligning local learning outcomes with global standards — turning international assessment results into meaningful progress for schools, families and the wider community.
