Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism  (MHT) announced the opening of registration for a specialised tourist guiding programme targeting Omani nationals fluent in Chinese or Spanish.

The programme aims to qualify and train national cadres in professional tourist guiding, as part of efforts to strengthen specialised tourism services directed at international markets.

According to the ministry, the programme is open to Omani citizens who demonstrate full proficiency in either Chinese or Spanish, which is considered a basic requirement. Applicants must be fully available throughout the training period, actively seeking employment, and capable of passing both the assessment test and the personal interview.

Candidates who meet the initial requirements will be notified of the date and venue of the assessment test. Successful candidates will then proceed to a personal interview as part of the final acceptance procedures.

The ministry noted that completion of the programme is a prerequisite for obtaining a tourist guiding licence.

The deadline for registration is January 5, 2026.

The announcement comes within the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism’s ongoing efforts to enhance the readiness of national human resources and support the growth of Oman’s tourism sector in line with global market demands.

It is worthy to mention that Oman's unique and authentic offering will be appealing to Chinese tourists. Now with a direct flight from Beijing, travel will be more comfortable and more attractive for travellers from both sides. The visa exemption policies and direct connectivity will create a surge in tourism.

Meanwhile, around 73,000 Chinese tourists visited Oman in 2024, and officials expect a surge in 2025 and the following years.

China's International visitor spending is projected to rise by nearly 13%.
