MUSCAT: The government’s decision to announce annual public holidays in advance has drawn widespread appreciation from citizens, professionals and officials, who say it promotes better planning, strengthens family ties and supports economic activity.
Dr Abdulaziz, a ministry official, called the move “a wise decision that enhances community well-being and individual quality of life — fully aligned with Oman Vision 2040.” He noted that early holiday announcements also boost domestic tourism, allowing families and individuals to plan trips to Oman’s diverse destinations.
Officials from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism echoed this sentiment. Ibtisam al Mamari said, “It helps people arrange gatherings and family meetings well in advance,” while Dr Adel al Ajmi, a medical practitioner, highlighted the broader economic benefits, pointing out that early planning mobilises both local and international tourism, supporting market growth.
Employees and professionals welcomed the clarity the initiative provides. Fahad al Tobi of OETC said, “It allows individuals and businesses to plan schedules and holidays with confidence.”
Similarly, media professional Ibrahim al Hadi emphasised that advance announcements bring clarity to both personal and professional life, making travel bookings and family arrangements smoother.
Communication and finance experts see additional advantages. Al Yaqdhan Ali said, “Announcing national holidays early allows for better financial planning and smarter use of long weekends.” Research specialist Azza al Mamari added, “It helps us plan ahead without stress, saving time and money.”
PR executive Hameeda al Balushi noted that parents can better organise children’s activities, while Maha al Balushi, CEO of Key Marketing, said knowing dates in advance reduces stress and improves alignment of work schedules.
From an educational perspective, Said al Rawahi, a social specialist, explained that clear holiday schedules benefit both students and institutions by facilitating academic planning, exams and developmental programmes.
Student Azza al Battashi said, “Knowing holiday dates in advance helps us plan study schedules, assignments and exam preparation more effectively.”
The tourism sector also benefits, with Salem al Hinai, a tour operator, noting, “Advance notice of holidays allows us to prepare suitable offers and improve service quality to meet expected demand.” Ahmed al Qasmi and Ahmed al Abri, public sector employees, called the initiative “long overdue” for enabling departments and companies to plan work schedules efficiently.
Sports journalists and communications specialists emphasised the social impact. Adel, a sports journalist, said, “Families can plan gatherings properly, strengthening social bonds,” while Anfal, a communications expert, described it as “a thoughtful approach that truly supports family bonding and togetherness.”
Overall, the advance announcement of public holidays is being hailed as a proactive, strategic initiative that promotes economic activity, social cohesion and personal well-being, while allowing Omanis to make the most of their time off.
