MUSCAT: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) held orientation meetings on Sunday for new internal scholarship students at the Grand Hall of the Cultural Centre at Sultan Qaboos University.

The meetings aim to prepare students academically, administratively and emotionally for university life.

The programme targets students enrolled in private higher education and training institutions in Muscat Governorate. It supports students as they move from school to university and helps them understand their academic responsibilities, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

Fahd bin Said al Qasabi, Director-General of Scholarships, MoHERI, said the meetings are an important step in preparing students before they begin their university journey. He explained that the sessions introduce students to scholarship rules, their rights and duties, and key academic and administrative requirements. This helps students feel more confident and reduces difficulties during the early stages of study.

He added that the meetings help students understand university study systems, assessment methods and the importance of discipline and commitment.

On a personal level, the programme also supports students by answering their questions, building confidence and explaining the support services available to them.

The programme also included awareness sessions on education priorities under Oman Vision 2040.

Al Qasabi stressed that a scholarship is a national responsibility as well as an educational opportunity. He encouraged students to work hard, remain committed, and use their university years to develop personal and professional skills. He noted that these meetings support Oman Vision 2040 by helping prepare skilled graduates for future labour market needs.

Suad al Farha, Director of the Internal Scholarships Department, said the department supervises internal scholarship programmes and follows up on students’ academic and administrative matters.

She explained that the meetings focus on clarifying scholarship regulations, students’ rights and obligations, and academic follow-up procedures, while encouraging regular communication with the department.

The programme included awareness sessions on education priorities under Oman Vision 2040, the dangers of drugs and harmful substances, student mental health, information security, and financial management. Presentations were also given on scholarship systems and grants, followed by an open discussion that allowed students to ask questions and engage with specialists.

Officials said the meetings play an important role in helping students adjust to university life, increase awareness and support their overall well-being, ensuring a positive and successful academic experience.
