SUHAR: A specialised medical team from Khoula Hospital successfully performed an emergency intervention at Sohar Hospital to treat a complex case of a patient suffering from an abnormal tangle of cerebral arteries and veins, using advanced neurocatheterisation techniques.

When admitted to Sohar Hospital, the patient was suffering from recurrent neurological symptoms that necessitated comprehensive examinations. Initial results revealed a complex cerebral vascular malformation, a rare and delicate condition requiring highly specialised intervention. Consequently, direct coordination was established with Khoula Hospital, being a specialised referral centre for such interventions, to develop a joint treatment plan to ensure the best possible outcome for the patient. The procedure was performed at Sohar Hospital using neurovascular catheterisation, a precise therapeutic technique performed through the blood vessels without the need for traditional surgical intervention. The operation was successful, and the medical team was able to treat the vascular malformation with high efficiency, resulting in a significant improvement in the patient’s condition.

Dr Ali bin Khalfan al Balushi, Senior Consultant in Neurology and Interventional Neuroradiology at Khoula Hospital, said that this success reflects the advanced level of healthcare services in the Sultanate of Oman and highlights the importance of integrated work among healthcare institutions in exchanging expertise and complementing roles to ensure the provision of specialised and safe healthcare for patients. He added that such cooperation contributes to raising the efficiency of national medical professionals and enhancing the utilisation of available resources and technologies in various healthcare institutions across the Sultanate of Oman. — ONA
