Alamah Marketing, in collaboration with Jibal Al Hajar Hotels and Resorts, has launched the “Alamat” Graphic Design Lab, a space dedicated to exploration and experimentation in typography and poster design.

The Alamat Lab aims to create an integrated experience for those interested in Arabic typography and poster design. The programme offers participants the opportunity to learn from specialised experts through a series of workshops and lectures held over two weeks, concluding with a public exhibition that allows participants to showcase their creative works.

The programme is implemented in three main phases. The first phase is an open call, with registration opened to young Omani designers and residents of Oman. The second phase consists of workshops and lectures held over a two-week period. The final phase features a public exhibition hosted at Al Mirani Fort and Muttrah Fort, where participants will present their final works.

The workshops are delivered by a group of Omani and Arab designers and artists. They include a conceptual thinking workshop (from research and idea to concept) by Ruqaiya Mazar; an Arabic pattern lettering workshop by Farah Aladawy; and a Latin typography workshop by Ali Waqar.

The programme also features a workshop on the grid systems in graphic design by Marwa Albahrani; a workshop on the art of authentic Arabic calligraphy by Ahmed Alrawahi & Mohammed Mehdi; and a foundational workshop on Arabic type design by Aissam Hamoud.

In addition, participants will take part in an illustration in graphic design projects workshop by Samah Alansari; a publication-focused workshop titled Community in Print: Old Muscat Zine by Reem Falanaz; and an experimental typography workshop exploring the power of analog processes, led by Marwa Albahrani and Ali Waqar.

Hashar bin Khamis Al Manadhari, Chief Executive Officer of Alamah Marketing, said that the launch of the Alamat Lab reflects Alama’s commitment to enriching the creative landscape and investing in talents that contribute to the growth of Oman’s creative industries. He noted that the initiative brings together expertise and experimentation in an inspiring endeavour that connects creative industries with artists.

Alamah is a leading house of expertise in the creative marketing communications sector, specialising in branding, corporate identity, advertising campaigns, and marketing consultancy. The company has contributed to a number of national projects, including Oman’s promotional national identity, the Dhofar identity, and the Oman Font.

In a related statement, Hani bin Abdulaziz Al Kindi, Chief Executive Officer of Jibal Al Hajar Hotels and Resorts—the operator of Al Mirani Fort and Muttrah Fort—said that selecting the two forts to host the Alamat Lab conveys a clear message that heritage sites are not merely historical landmarks, but dynamic platforms capable of generating knowledge, stimulating creativity, and shaping the future of cultural industries. He added that linking contemporary design with Omani heritage strengthens national identity, enhances the creative tourism experience, and provides young designers with a genuine space for experimentation, influence, and professional development within and beyond the Sultanate.
