MUSCAT: The College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), through its Alumni Committee and Department of Tourism, recently organised a forum for final-year students titled 'Enhancing the Graduates of the College of Arts and Social Sciences to Align with the Labour Market in Line with Oman Vision 2040.'

The event aimed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to enter the workforce, with sessions on employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and labour market readiness delivered by experts from the Ministry of Labour, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), entrepreneurs, and HR professionals.

An integrated training programme complemented the forum, guiding students through CV preparation, application processes and mock interviews to simulate real-world professional scenarios.

Dr Faisal bin Saif al Saidi, Assistant Dean for Training and Community Service, highlighted the importance of linking university learning with employment requirements, urging students to continuously develop specialised skills to gain a competitive edge.

Representatives from the Ministry of Labour emphasised the evolving global labour market and highlighted initiatives supporting youth employment, while SMEDA and successful entrepreneurs underscored opportunities in entrepreneurship and innovation, including funding, advisory services, incubators and the Riyada Card benefits.

The forum forms part of SQU’s ongoing efforts to enhance educational outcomes, strengthen employability and prepare graduates to contribute effectively to Oman Vision 2040.
