MUSCAT, DEC 20

Ibri Club claimed its first victory of the current Jindal Football League season after securing a valuable 1–0 away win over Samayil Club in the match held at Nizwa Sports Complex, concluding the eighth round of the league.

Samayil began the match with high pressing from the opening minutes and asserted their dominance in search of an early goal. The most dangerous chance came in the fifth minute through Ahmed Al Jabri, whose powerful shot was confidently saved by Ibri goalkeeper Omar Al Abri. Ibri, meanwhile, relied in the first half on defensive organisation and tactical discipline, attempting to capitalise on counterattacks without posing real danger to Samayil’s goal.

Samayil players continued to control the flow of play in the first half and came close to opening the scoring following a well-delivered cross by Ahmed al Jabri, which Badr al Jabri headed narrowly wide of the left post. In the 33rd minute, Bashar al Maharbi missed a clear opportunity with a surprise header that sailed just over the crossbar. Ibri created little in attack during the first half, leaving Samayil as the more threatening side without finding the net, as the half ended goalless.

At the start of the second half, Ibri showed a different approach, with their players adopting a more attacking mindset in search of a goal that would secure their first three points of the season. From a swift counterattack, Abdulrahman al Yaqoubi threaded a precise through ball to Mohammed al Alawi, who skillfully beat the Samayil defence before calmly slotting the ball past goalkeeper Alaa al Hamadani in the 49th minute to score the match’s only goal.

Al Rustaq claimed their first point of the season after holding Dhofar to a goalless draw.

Following the goal, Samayil increased the pressure in an attempt to equalise, but their efforts lacked effectiveness in the final third due to Ibri’s solid defensive organisation. Ibri professional Jackson Bisan nearly doubled the lead, but Alaa al Hamadani produced a fine save to deny him. Samayil’s best chance came through a shot by Osama al Zuaabi in the 78th minute, which failed to find the back of the net.

In the remaining minutes, Ibri players managed the match intelligently, closing spaces and limiting Samayil’s attacking threat. The closing stages saw Samayil’s Ahmed al Farsi sent off after receiving a second yellow card for protesting against match referee Nayef al Balushi, forcing Samayil to complete the match with ten men. The final whistle confirmed a 1–0 victory for Ibri.

With this result, Ibri collected their first three points of the league, raising their tally to four points in 13th place (second from bottom), offering renewed hope and a fresh start in their campaign. Samayil, meanwhile, remained in tenth place with nine points.

AL RUSTAQ DRAW WITH DHOFAR

In the final match of Round 8, Al Rustaq claimed their first point of the season after holding Dhofar to a goalless draw at Al Rustaq Sports Complex. The match was evenly contested and characterised by defensive caution and a scarcity of clear chances. Yet, the point proved valuable for Al Rustaq as they continue their difficult journey this season. As a result, Al Rustaq stayed at the bottom of the table with their first point, while Dhofar moved up to nine points in ninth place.
