His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has conferred the Civil Order of Oman of the First Class on the Secretary-General of the United Nations during an audience held at al Barakah Palace.
The honour was bestowed by His Majesty in appreciation of the Secretary-General’s prominent diplomatic and political role, as well as his sustained efforts in supporting pathways for conflict resolution and promoting international peace and security.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed his profound appreciation for the high honour conferred upon him by His Majesty the Sultan, commending the constructive role of the Sultanate of Oman and its wise diplomatic efforts in supporting dialogue, strengthening mediation and contributing to the handling of regional and international issues in a spirit of responsibility and cooperation. He also affirmed the importance of continuing partnership with the Sultanate of Oman in serving stability and peace at the international level.
