MUSCAT: The National Committee for the Care of Persons with Disabilities discussed on Sunday, in its meeting chaired by Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development and Chairperson of the Committee, a proposal to prepare a National Strategy for the Disability Sector in the Sultanate of Oman for the period 2026–2030.
The Committee reviewed the efforts made and measures taken in applying the mechanisms for functionality-based assessment of persons with disabilities. Additionally, it discussed the mechanisms for dispensing prosthetic devices and assistive aids.
The Committee also discussed the decision to reconfigure the National Committee for Persons with Disabilities and its Technical Committee based on the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The meeting reviewed a summary report of the Ninth Annual Meeting of the ESCWA Expert Group on Disability, which was held in Cairo last year. - ONA
