MUSCAT: The Environment Authority on Sunday hosted the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Regional Dialogue for the Middle East and North Africa, reinforcing the Sultanate of Oman’s growing role in regional and international climate action.
Held under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, the event reflects Oman’s commitment to supporting climate initiatives, strengthening regional cooperation and deepening partnerships with the Green Climate Fund. The dialogue is one of the GCF’s most prominent annual regional events and runs until December 16.
The gathering brings together National Designated Authorities, accredited entities, banks and financial institutions, United Nations organisations, implementing partners and government representatives from across the region. Its objective is to enhance regional coordination, exchange experiences and discuss priorities related to climate finance, mitigation and adaptation.
The programme includes specialised technical sessions and interactive workshops focused on building institutional capacity to prepare and develop climate project proposals. It also addresses ways to improve countries’ readiness to access financing from the Green Climate Fund and reviews the Fund’s strategic directions for the coming period.
Hosting the dialogue aligns with Oman’s commitments under the Paris Agreement on climate change and its support for developing countries in accessing international climate finance. It also supports Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises environmental sustainability and the transition towards a low-emission, climate-resilient economy.
Through hosting this regional platform, Oman continues to position itself as an active contributor to collective climate action and a facilitator of cooperation across the Middle East and North Africa. — ONA
