Salalah, Masirah and Ibri impress at Junior Badminton tourney

MUSCAT: The Oman Junior Badminton Championship for Clubs concluded recently at the Oasis Badminton Academy in Bausher. The one-day event, organised by the Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) featured wide participation from nine clubs representing various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, with players competing across three age categories: Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17.


Salalah, Masirah and Ibri clubs delivered an outstanding show as top positions across the age categories were shared among these three clubs. In the Under-17 category, Shihab al Hinai of Masirah Club claimed first place after delivering a strong performance throughout the championship. Said al Shibli of Salalah Club secured second place, while Ziyad al Hinai of Salalah and Abdulaziz al Hinai of Ibri finished third and fourth respectively.


The Under-15 category saw Ahmed al Shibli of Salalah Club crowned champion following a series of impressive victories. Odai al Hinai of Ibri Club claimed second place, while Zakaria al Hinai of Salalah and Mohammed al Hinai of Masirah finished third and fourth after intense and competitive matches.

In the youngest category, Under-13, Khalid al Shibli of Salalah Club delivered a standout performance to secure first place. Anwar al Hinai of Masirah Club finished second, while Abdullah al Owaidi of Masirah and Adam al Qassabi of Qurayat Club claimed third and fourth respectively, highlighting the emergence of a promising new generation of junior players.


The championship was part of ORSC’s ongoing efforts to expand the base of badminton participation, identify and develop promising junior talents, and provide a competitive platform that supports clubs in enhancing the technical and physical abilities of their players. Matches throughout the tournament were marked by a high level of technical performance, strong competitiveness, and enthusiasm, reflecting the growing attention clubs are giving to structured junior development programmes.


Dr Abdulrahim al Droushi expressed his satisfaction with the advanced technical level displayed by the players.

“Thanks to all the participated clubs as they made strong and top efforts in recent years to nurture badminton talent. The importance of such championships during this phase, as ORSC focuses strongly on junior age groups as part of a long-term vision to build a competitive generation capable of representing Oman regionally and internationally over the next eight years. I reaffirmed the committee’s continued full support for junior development programmes,” he added


Masirah Club coach Sulaiman al Hinai described the championship as a clear reflection of the technical and physical progress of junior players. “Thanks to ORSC for its excellent organisation and for providing an ideal competitive environment that contributed to the event’s success,” he said
