MUSCAT: The Green Build Oman Forum 2025 opened in Muscat under the organisation of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), positioning itself as a key platform for advancing sustainable construction practices in Oman.

The forum focuses on practical solutions to enhance construction quality through the adoption of environmentally friendly materials, improved energy efficiency and more sustainable project implementation methods.

The two-day event was inaugurated by Dr Saeed bin Hamad al Rubaie, Vice-Chancellor, University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) and brings together policymakers, industry leaders, engineers and sustainability experts to exchange knowledge and experiences supporting Oman’s urban development transition. Discussions centre on accelerating the shift towards a low-emission built environment by promoting green materials, energy-efficient design, circular economy principles and the use of modern digital technologies.

A dedicated panel examined the challenges facing the adoption of environmentally friendly materials, including the need to update technical specifications and align them with evolving sustainability standards.

The forum also featured a presentation on the Oman Building Code, highlighting its role in guiding sustainable construction.

Participants explored the latest innovations in low-carbon building materials, alongside technical sessions on energy efficiency encompassing digitally driven architectural design, thermal energy storage solutions and air-conditioning technologies tailored for Gulf climatic conditions.

On the second day, attention shifts to implementation efficiency and the circular economy, with panels addressing best practices in project execution, construction recycling solutions and the role of advanced technologies in strengthening infrastructure sustainability. The forum coincides with a period of rapid infrastructure expansion in Oman, as sustainability standards are increasingly integrated into national development plans.

An accompanying exhibition showcases low-emission construction materials, recycling technologies and circular economy initiatives, underscoring the growing momentum behind green building across the Sultanate of Oman. — ONA
