Muscat: The national awareness campaign on weather hazards and tsunami risks, held under the slogan “Your Awareness for Your Safety”, will commence tomorrow in its fourth stop in Muscat Governorate. The three-day campaign aims to promote public and institutional preparedness in dealing with severe weather events.

Organised by the National Emergency Management Centre (NCEM), the Civil Aviation Authority, the Ministry of Information, and the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, the campaign is held in cooperation with Muscat Governorate and the Ministry of Education.

The initiative seeks to enhance community understanding of weather risks, tropical conditions, and tsunami hazards, while strengthening knowledge of the multi-hazard early-warning system. It also provides comprehensive guidance on proper behaviour during emergencies.

Through training programmes and interactive activities, the campaign aims to boost community readiness and improve individual response capabilities when facing emergency situations.

Target groups include representatives of public and private sector entities, civil society organisations, and volunteer teams. The programme features key components such as meetings, seminars, practical exercises, participation in governorate-level events, the release of educational materials, and an accompanying awareness exhibition.

Oman continues to prioritise national preparedness for tropical cyclones and tsunami risks.

This campaign underscores the importance of strengthening a culture of awareness to ensure timely and effective response during emergencies, reducing both human and material losses. After launching in coastal governorates, the campaign will continue across various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
