

MUSCAT: Oman and Algeria have discussed expanding cooperation in agriculture, fisheries and food industries, with a strong focus on joint investments and food security. During talks between Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority and Algeria’s Agriculture Minister Yassine El Mahdi Oualid, both sides explored partnerships across entire food value chains and related industries.
The discussions covered potential joint projects in crop, livestock and fisheries production, alongside infrastructure development that supports sustainable food systems. The aim is to attract quality investments that strengthen resilience and create shared economic value.
As part of his visit, the Algerian minister toured Oman’s key agri-food trading hubs, including the Central Fruits and Vegetables Market operated by Silal and the wholesale facilities at Khazaen Economic City. He was briefed on supply-chain management, digital tracking systems and modern wholesale practices.
The delegation also visited the central fish market in Barka, reviewing advanced handling, cold storage and quality-control systems. The visit underscored both countries’ interest in exchanging expertise and deepening cooperation across food and market development sectors. — ONA
