MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development launched the 'Qur'i Aina' campaign 2025 on Tuesday, coinciding with the UN's annual campaign to combat violence against women.

The campaign underscores the pivotal role women play in the development process and affirms that safeguarding their rights is a cornerstone of social progress. It includes a range of activities and events designed to raise community awareness of women's rights and the legislation guaranteeing them, and to cultivate a culture of support and protection. Protecting women is considered a shared national responsibility that begins with knowledge, is supported by laws, and is embodied in daily practices within the family and society.

Jamila bint Salem Jadad, Assistant Director-General of the Directorate-General of Family Development, said: "The Sultanate of Oman joins the world in the global campaign to combat violence against women through the national awareness campaign 'Qur'i Aina', which aims to enhance awareness, unify efforts and support women's empowerment initiatives across various fields."

Jamila pointed out that the campaign underscores the advanced national achievements and the laws, legislation and regulations established by the government to protect women from all forms of violence.

The ministry plays a key role in this area through its social protection services, psychological support and family counselling, in addition to receiving and handling reports of abuse with complete confidentiality and high professionalism to ensure the necessary protection and care for women at risk of abuse. The ministry also works through its various programmes to raise awareness and empower women and families through preventative and educational initiatives aimed at strengthening the role of the family and society in building a safe and stable environment for women and girls.

Meanwhile, the Protection Centre, affiliated with the Family Protection Department at the Ministry of Social Development, serves women at risk of abuse, providing comprehensive services. From providing safe shelter in an environment that respects privacy and dignity, to offering psychological and social support, and finally legal advice that helps each individual cope with their situation in a way that considers their specific circumstances, individualised intervention plans are also developed to empower them to overcome social or psychological challenges and make better decisions for their future.
