MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman will host the first Arab Women Researchers Forum on November 30.

The two-day forum will see the participation of Arab women researchers specialised in different scientific and academic fields, in addition to representatives of Arab, regional and international organisations, federations and institutions.

The forum is organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, in cooperation with the Department of Science and Research at the Arab League’s Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO), Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and the University of Al Buraimi.

The forum reflects a deep conviction in the basic role of Arab women in supporting the tracks of sustainable development through research and innovation. It affirms Arab women’s competence and ability to innovate and provide practical solutions for development issues — making them an essential partner in building a knowledge-based future in the Arab world.

The forum aims to promote the exchange of experiences and expertise among Arab women researchers, showcase inspiring role models and empower women in the fields of research, technology and innovation — in line with the Arab strategy for research, technology and innovation.

It also seeks to enhance Arab women’s presence in research institutions, as well as women’s active participation in devising sound policies and programmes that serve their respective countries and the Arab world at large.

The forum also underlines national efforts to support Omani women researchers and focuses on their contribution to Arab and international forums in a manner that highlights the progress made by the Sultanate of Oman's system of research and innovation.

The forum includes nine dialogue sessions on research and the visions of women researchers. The sessions cover panel discussions about culture, tourism and the media, sustainable development and the green economy, artificial intelligence and innovation, health and psychological and social care.

The forum also deals with ways to address future challenges posed to higher education, enhance the role of Arab women researchers and develop mechanisms for building networks between Omani women and their counterparts abroad.

The final session will review key recommendations and final outcomes of the forum. — ONA
