Under the theme ‘We Are One’, more than 1,200 young artists from over 60 nationalities converged at Amity University Dubai for the Annual Student Art Show (ASAS) 2025, creating what has become the world’s largest international student art exhibition.

Amidst the vibrant colours and towering canvases, Oman’s student artists made a remarkable impression, guided by their mentor Dr Hafsa Banu.

Dr Hafsa Banu, a dentist by profession, is also a renowned nail and string artist, celebrated for her intricate designs and innovative approach to visual art. Her dual expertise in science and creativity has inspired her students to combine precision, imagination and expression in their works.

This year’s edition made history with two world records — the largest international student art exhibition and the largest canvas painting — bringing together Emirati, international and students of determination in a celebration of unity and creativity.

For Oman, the moment was especially defining.

“I am incredibly proud of my students from Oman”, said Dr Hafsa Banu, who has led Omani participation for four consecutive years. “To see 65 artworks displayed on a truly global stage — and to have our students of determination win first and third place — fills me with joy and gratitude”.

The honours went to Abdullah al Ghafri (1st place) and Dorian Idris (3rd place), both from the Centre for Special Education (CSE), Indian School Muscat. Their recognition, in a category filled with international talent, became one of the most celebrated moments for the Omani contingent.

Abdullah’s mother, Rasha Ibrahim Ghazi, said the win marked a proud milestone: “This is Abdullah’s third consecutive year participating and we are so proud of him for winning first place. We are deeply grateful to Dr Hafsa Banu for her tireless efforts and for giving our children this global platform”.

For Dorian’s parents, Dan Ivan and Ronalyn Lacdan, the announcement came as a joyful shock.

“It was a surprise to see Dorian win third place. We are so happy and proud to see his work exhibited. Our thanks go to the teachers, mentors and organisers of ASAS 2025 who supported him throughout”.

Following the triumph in Dubai, a special felicitation ceremony was held at Waterfront Mall in Muscat on November 12. Dr P Mohamed Ali, Chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology, served as guest of honour and praised the young artists for elevating Oman on the international art map.

Of the 65 artworks exhibited, CSE, Indian School Muscat, contributed the largest share with 55 pieces. Students from ABA School, Punjab School Islamabad and others also took part.

Founders of Funun Arts Group, Shiba Khan and Farah Khan, said ASAS 2025 was more than an exhibition — it was “a movement of hearts and minds united through creativity”.

As the Muscat celebrations concluded, the young artists left with certificates, applause and the confidence of having stood on a global creative stage. For Oman, it was not just participation — it was a moment of pride, accomplishment and artistic belonging in a world united by colour.
