Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in North Al Batinah has seized a large quantity of unsafe and illegally produced furniture materials from a workshop operated by expatriate workers.

According to the CPA, inspectors discovered the workers manufacturing and upholstering furniture using damaged and used wood, as well as worn fabrics, all of which were deemed unfit for consumer use. The workshop was operating without a license and in a location that did not meet the required health and technical standards for this type of activity.

During the inspection, authorities confiscated 17 pieces of furniture made from used wood, 1,000 kilograms of damaged wood, and 1,000 meters of used fabric. Finished furniture pieces made with these materials were also seized.

The CPA stated that the necessary legal procedures have been taken, including placing the seized goods under custody and preparing an official seizure report. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring markets, ensuring product safety, and taking action against practices that threaten consumer health and safety.
