

MUSCAT, NOV 22
Bausher Club secured the overall title of the 16th edition of Oman Open Water Swimming Championship after the swimmers delivered an impressive performance at the event which took place on Saturday at Qurum Beach in Muscat. In last October, Bausher Club also had claimed top honours at the Oman Aquatics Association (OAA) Annual Swimming Cup. This is the second straight title for the club in this season.
As many as 65 swimmers representing 12 clubs including Al Shabab, Al Amerat, Al Orouba, Al Bashayer, Bausher , Al Ittifaq, Sohar, Saham, Majees, Bidiyah, Masirah and Muscat took part in the event which was organised by Oman Aquatics Association (OAA).
In the individual race for ages 14–17, Maximos Helinas from Bausher claimed first place and followed by his team-mate Ali bin Adil al Hosni in second. Hamad al Hosni from Muscat Club finished third. In the team standings for the same age group, Bausher Club took first place while Al Amerat Club secured second, and Muscat Club placing third. In the 18 and above individual category, Nidhal bin Sulaiman al Harrasi of Al Amerat Club won gold, while Ayman bin Talib al Qasmi of Bausher earned silver. Nasser bin Saif al Kindi, also from Al Amerat, completed the podium in third place. For the team event in this category, Al Amerat Club emerged champions, followed by Bausher in second place, and Muscat Club in third.
At the conclusion of the 16th edition, Bausher Club was crowned overall champion as they reinforced by their strong results in both youth and senior categories. Al Amerat Club claimed the runner-up position, while Muscat Club secured third place, completing the podium of this year’s national open water swimming showcase. The championship once again highlighted the growing depth of talent in Oman’s open water swimming community, with clubs demonstrating strong preparation, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit throughout the event.
After the completion of all the swimming events, the chief guest Taha bin Sulaiman al Kishry, Board Member of the Oman Olympic Committee, in the presence of Dr Awadh bin Salim al Ojaili, Chairman of the Oman Aquatics Association, delivered the awards and medals to the top winners. The closing ceremony attended also by federation members, club representatives, and a large crowd of spectators who gathered to support the swimmers.
Dr Awadh al Ojaili, Chairman of the Oman Aquatics Association (OAA), congratulated Bausher Club for their outstanding performance and for emerging as champions of the event.
“We extend our appreciation to all the clubs that participated in this edition of the championship. The Oman Open Water Swimming Championship is a vital domestic event, bringing together swimmers from across the nation. It also serves as an important platform for the national team’s coaching staff to identify top talents. I would like to thank all OAA board members and the technical team for their tremendous efforts in ensuring the smooth organisation of the event and maintaining a high level of competition." Al Ojaili said
The OAA chief also praised the dedication and commitment displayed by the swimmers. “We witnessed strong competition among all the participating clubs, and the determination shown by the swimmers reflects the significant work being done at the club level,” he said. He concluded his remarks by emphasising the importance of continued support and development to further elevate aquatic sports in Oman.
