SALALAH: Dhofar Governorate is currently witnessing the implementation of a major package of strategic water, electricity and sanitation projects, with total investment exceeding RO 137 million. These initiatives, comprising both completed and ongoing works, form part of broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure and enhance service quality across the governorate.
Namaa Services Dhofar confirmed that its 2025 projects include the inauguration of the first phase of the sewage network in Sahalnut, Salalah, at a cost of RO 45 million, alongside the rehabilitation of the Ashour pumping station and upgrades to water networks in Salalah, Taqah and Mirbat, valued at RO 27 million. The expansion of the sewage treatment plant, costing RO 35 million, is also progressing as part of the comprehensive development plan.
Eng Ali bin Issa Shamas, CEO of Namaa Services Dhofar, told Oman News Agency that the completion rate of the water sector development project in Salalah, Taqah and Mirbat has reached 53 per cent, with investments exceeding RO 4.5 million. These efforts aim to strengthen water security and expand distribution networks to meet peak demand through 2045.
He explained that the projects include upgrading the Ashour pumping station and improving supply networks across the three wilayats. The company has also completed the construction of new water networks in Awqad and Atin extensions in Salalah, with pipe diameters ranging from 110 mm to 560 mm, covering residential areas such as Blocks A, C and Al Muruj. A new 800 mm transmission line from the Atin reservoir has also been constructed to serve Al Muruj and future developments.
In Taqah, key works include connecting the wilayat’s wells to a new reservoir through a 300 mm pipeline and establishing support pipelines west of the town centre with diameters between 500 mm and 800 mm.
Meanwhile, projects in Mirbat include the construction of a main reservoir in the Shaaboun area with a capacity of two million gallons, along with 600 mm pumping lines from Ashour to the proposed reservoir and a 900 mm main distribution line.
Regarding the Ashour station, the CEO added that main pumps are being replaced to increase their capacity from 45 to 385 litres per second, significantly improving distribution efficiency and network stability.
In the electricity sector, Namaa Services Dhofar has awarded all tenders to connect rural areas to the main power grid, as part of a plan to phase out diesel-based power stations. This supports national efforts to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency in line with the Green Transition and Carbon Neutrality 2050 objectives. — ONA
