The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Centre in Washington hosted its first fashion show featuring traditional Omani clothing, titled ‘Omani Fashion Night’, in an elegant evening that celebrated Omani heritage and marked a distinctive step in cultural diplomacy.
Dr Majid bin Hilal al Khalili, Executive Director of the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Centre in Washington, said the event was exceptional in both concept and organisation. He noted that what truly distinguished the occasion was not only the richness of the display, but the fact that it represented the centre’s first fashion show, reflecting its vision to expand cultural platforms and present Omani heritage to a wider audience in the US.
Omani designer Alaa al Siyabi travelled from the Sultanate of Oman to present a captivating collection inspired by the traditional attire of Omani women. Featuring luxurious fabrics and intricate hand embroidery, the designs combined authenticity with contemporary innovation, offering a modern interpretation of Omani dress while preserving its historic essence.
The evening was organised in partnership with Omani businesswoman Rasha al Madani, a member of the Businesswomen’s Committee at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, whose efforts played a prominent role in the event’s refined presentation. She affirmed that the show marks the beginning of a new pathway in promoting Omani identity on the global stage.
The fashion show served not only as an artistic celebration but also as a cultural platform highlighting Oman’s rich heritage and humanitarian presence, conveying a message of the Sultanate of Oman’s ability to present its traditions to the world with elegance and authenticity.
The event was attended by Talal bin Sulaiman al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the United States, along with diplomats, US government officials; and prominent media and cultural figures. — ONA
