Muscat, Oman — The inaugural Russian Film Festival in Oman has wrapped up after three days of full-house screenings, enthusiastic audience engagement, and vibrant cultural exchange.

Hosted from November 16–18  at VOX Cinemas, Mall of Oman, the festival marked an important milestone in cultural cooperation between Russia and the Sultanate of Oman.

The festival opened to a packed auditorium and strong public interest. As part of the official program, attendees heard a welcoming message from Olga Borisovna Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, delivered on her behalf by Rustam Abiyev, Assistant and Chief of Staff to the Minister of Culture.

In her address, Lyubimova emphasized the significance of 2025 as the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Oman, underscoring the role of cultural initiatives such as Russian Seasons in strengthening this partnership.

The opening ceremony also featured remarks from  Oleg Levin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Oman, renowned Omani actor and producer Ahmed Alowini, and distinguished Russian director Aleksey German, who presented the festival’s opening film, the wartime drama Air, screened in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Aleksey German introduced the film “Air” personally and later participated in an in-depth Q&A session, during which Omani viewers actively discussed the creative process, historical themes, and production details. The director noted his delight that “Omani audiences can now share a story that has already resonated with millions of viewers worldwide.”

Over the course of the festival, audiences were treated to a curated selection of five contemporary Russian films spanning multiple genres. The strong turnout and lively audience engagement highlighted a growing interest in Russian filmmaking.
