MUSCAT, NOV 20
The world football governing body, Fifa, released the Men’s world ranking of the teams for November month on Wednesday. Oman remained in the 79th spot of the latest Fifa World Ranking released. Red Warriors have 1312.45 points. The Red Warriors’ ranking reflects their recent international engagements, including two friendly matches played earlier this month as part of preparations for upcoming continental and regional commitments. Oman began the window with a solid 2-0 victory over Sudan at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Their second outing saw them face a tougher opponent in Ivory Coast, newly qualified for the Fifa World Cup 2026, where Oman fell 2-0 despite a spirited second-half performance. These friendlies followed the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 26 playoff round against Qatar and the UAE, where Oman secured a draw in the opener before falling short in the following match.
At Asian level, Japan maintained their status as Asia's top-ranked side while Iran are the second-highest ranked Asian side with South Korea just behind. Japan, who registered two victories in the recent international window, moved up one spot to 18th while Iran also improved by one to 20th. Australia dropped by one to 26th while Uzbekistan, who have qualified for the Fifa World Cup for the first time, jumped an impressive five places to 50th.
Qatar, who have qualified for the Fifa World Cup on merit for the first time, improved by one spot to 51st. Iraq dropped by one to 58th but their ranking means they will be one of the two teams who will advance automatically to one of the two finals in the Fifa Playoff Tournament for the Fifa World Cup 2026.
Oman will now shift focus to an important upcoming fixture as the national team travel to Doha on Sunday ahead of their decisive playoff match against Somalia on Wednesday. The fixture will determine which side secures a place in the Fifa Arab Cup Qatar 2025 which will be staged during December 1 to 18. Following the friendly against Ivory Coast, the Red Warriors resumed to training, conducting both morning and evening sessions to refine tactical plans, strengthen physical readiness, and maintain competitive rhythm. With their regional ranking intact and momentum building through recent matches, Oman aim to capitalise on their preparations as they enter a crucial phase in their 2025 campaign.
