

MUSCAT: The Office of Majlis Ash’shura held its third regular meeting of the third ordinary session of the tenth term (2023-2027), under the chairmanship of Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, on Wednesday.
The office reviewed the agenda for the upcoming council sessions scheduled for early December and examined the follow-up tools submitted by the council members. These included questions to the minister of energy and minerals regarding the policy on not routinely flaring associated gas and the National Net-Zero Programme.
The office reviewed another question to be submitted to the chairman of Oman Investment Authority regarding certain operating expenses of the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group) and a question to the CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority regarding regulating the resale of Internet services and reviewing telecommunications prices in light of economic changes.
The office also reviewed several ministerial responses including one submitted by the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning regarding the standardisation of architectural styles for public council buildings. This is in addition to the response submitted by the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation concerning total expenditure on domestic and international scholarship programmes funded by the development budget.
The office also reviewed reports prepared by its standing committees on the annual reports of several ministries and service authorities. These included the Health and Social Affairs Committee’s report on the 2024 annual reports of the Ministry of Health and the Environment Authority as well as the Services and Public Utilities Committee’s report on the annual report of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and its evaluation of the ministerial statement of the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning.
The office also discussed several letters from citizens and took appropriate action on them, reaffirming the council’s commitment to addressing community issues and strengthening communication with citizens. — ONA
