Fatik earns Oman’s fourth medal at ISG Riyadh

MUSCAT, NOV 19: Sultanate of Oman added their fourth medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 in Riyadh on Tuesday as Fatik bin Abdulghafoor Beit Jaboob claimed a bronze in the men’s high jump.


Fatik put up an impressive show at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium as he found his best jump of 2.13 metres in the fifth attempt after making clean four jumps. The distance earned him a place on podium as well.


Amir Nagaev of Uzbekistan claimed the gold with a jump of 2.15 metres and Yasir Kuduban took silver with the same height.


Fatik made three attempts for 2.15 metres but missed the mark settling for a bronze medal.


The Omani high jumper expressed his joy with the achievement, saying: "My ambition was to win the gold, but every championship has its own circumstances. I gave it my all, and the competition was intense. I am happy to win a bronze during the celebration of Oman National Day. I dedicate this medal to the entire country – its leadership, government, and people – who yearn for excellence."


Star Omani sprinter Ali al Balushi, who won the lone gold for Oman in the men’s 100 metres, kept chances for a double medal after qualifying to the final of the 200 metres. Ali finished first in his heat with an impressive time of 20.88 seconds.


In the medal table of the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games, Oman are in the 22nd spot after winning a gold, silver and two bronze medals.


Türkiye are leading the table with a total 130 medals including 65 gold, 37 silver and 28 bronze. Uzbekistan are second with 79 medals (25, 29, 25) and Iran are third with 60 medals (19, 17, 24). Hosts Saudi are seventh with 36 medals which include nine gold, while Bahrain leaped to sixth with 10 gold, four silver and five bronze medals.


Last week, Olympian weightlifter Ammar bin Salim al Khanjari won a silver and a bronze for Oman.
