MUSCAT, NOV 18
The Ministry of Social Development held an introductory workshop about the national guide on standards for licensing and classification of institutions that provide services to persons with disabilities. The workshop was held under the auspices of Sulaiman bin Nasser al Hiji, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health for Administrative and Financial Affairs, at the National Autism Centre in Al Seeb on Tuesday.
The workshop included a visual presentation on the new national guide. The guide is an output of the Disability Services and Programmes Development Lab and serves as a practical reference to assist institutions and professionals working in the disability sector in adhering to the best standards. It aims to promote transparency and accountability in service delivery, encourage innovation and investment in the sector, and support efforts towards the comprehensive inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.
Dr Nadia bint Ali al Ajmiyah, Director of the National Autism Centre, stated: “This guide is an important tool for all institutions working in the field of services for people with disabilities. It includes clear and comprehensive guidelines on regulating and developing licensing procedures for these institutions to conduct activities, programmes and services related to healthcare, treatment, rehabilitation, or education for people with disabilities. It also outlines the steps and requirements for licensing existing or newly established institutions or units, as well as the renewal of their licences and the licensing and renewal of specialised staff working in these institutions or units.”
The general framework of the national guide for governmental, non-profit, and private institutions providing services to people with disabilities was reviewed. The licensing requirements for institutions providing services and programmes for people with disabilities were also discussed, covering the licensing and renewal of licences for private or non-profit institutions or units owned by individuals, the licensing and renewal of licences for private or non-profit institutions or units owned through partnerships, and the licensing of professional staff working in private or non-profit institutions or units.
The guide represents a significant step towards achieving Oman Vision 2040 and the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
