MUSCAT: The Hockey Oman Carnival, organised by Hockey Oman in partnership with UTSC, concluded on Friday after attracting more than 15,000 spectators and delivering one of the most successful hockey festivals ever held in the Sultanate of Oman.


The carnival opened in the presence of GV Srinivas, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, who attended as Chief Guest. Srinivas praised Hockey Oman and UTSC for their efforts in promoting hockey and strengthening sporting and cultural ties between Oman and India.


The closing ceremony was attended by Dr Marwan bin Juma al Juma, Chairman of Oman Hockey Association (OHA), Ahmed bin Nasser al Darmaki, Secretary of OHA, senior officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) and members of the OHA Board, who commended the participating teams and organisers for their outstanding contributions.


CATEGORY CHAMPIONS


The tournament featured several competitive divisions, with thrilling finals across all age groups:


Women’s International Tournament:


India Rush Mumbai defeated Hustle Hoc Kochi after a 2–2 draw, securing victory 2–1 on penalties.


Gulf Hockey Fiesta – Men’s Category: Team Coorg Oman captured the title with a powerful 6–3 win over UTSC.


Masters Men: UTSC overcame Oman Veterans with a 4–2 victory.


Under 18 Boys: Ahli Sidab beat Al Amerat Club 7–2.


Under 18 Girls: Indian School Al Seeb defeated Muscat Club 7–1.


Under 14 Boys: Muscat Club defeated Qurayat Club in a high-scoring 6–4 match.


Officials praised the competitive spirit on display, noting that the finals showcased exceptional talent and growth in grassroots hockey across Oman.


FESTIVAL OF SPORTS AND CULTURE


The carnival also featured vibrant cultural and community activities, including a 600-woman dance performance, which captivated the audience. Visitors enjoyed a lively Fan Village offering entertainment, games, and family-friendly attractions throughout the event.


The combination of top-quality hockey and cultural celebration created a festival atmosphere that resonated with fans and participants alike.


Organisers expressed gratitude to participating teams, partners, and spectators for their support. They emphasised the event’s role in elevating hockey’s profile in Oman and fostering stronger international sporting ties.


The Hockey Oman Carnival concluded as a landmark event, celebrating sport, culture and community on a grand scale.
