Muscat: The Oman Olympic (U23) national football team launched its internal training camp in Muscat with a deserved 2–0 victory over Muscat Club in a friendly match that showcased a balanced and confident performance from the Red Squad. Harith al Mashaykhi and Ghazi al Saadi scored the two goals after the team maintained clear dominance throughout the match, which took place on Thursday evening at Muscat Club Stadium.

The national team is currently holding its preparation camp in Muscat from November 2 to 18 as part of the technical staff’s plan led by national coach Badr al Maimani. The staff has chosen to focus on a young group of emerging players born in 2005 and 2006, aiming to build a future-ready squad capable of competing strongly in regional and continental tournaments.

The opening friendly served as an ideal test to evaluate the team’s physical readiness and tactical application. The players showed increasing cohesion and strong discipline while executing the technical instructions, earning an important morale-boosting win ahead of the upcoming official competition.

The Red Squad is now preparing for their second friendly match against Sudan, scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.

During daily training sessions, the technical staff continues to increase the physical load on the players while implementing tactical drills to improve offensive transitions and defensive structure. This approach is part of a long-term project to prepare a strong foundation of players who can represent Oman in major future events, most notably the Asian qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The draw for the upcoming Gulf Cup for U23 national teams set to take place in Doha from December 4 to 16 placed Oman in Group B alongside the UAE, Iraq and Yemen. It is a highly competitive group that requires maximum readiness and full concentration, as all participating teams aspire to reach the final rounds.

Through its performances during training camp, the Oman U23 team demonstrates a strong desire to make an impressive showing in the Gulf Cup. The squad, composed of promising young talents, shows enthusiasm and rapid development, while the camp offers a crucial opportunity to test teamwork and tactical understanding under the guidance of coach Badr al Maimani and his staff.
