Muscat: Celebrating 30 years of wellness in Oman, Dr Prema Nagesh — founder of Vyaniti Yoga — has special sessions for sports persons to enhance their performance.
“Yoga is not just stretching or breathing — it is active meditation in action. For every sportsperson, Yoga helps the body stay strong and flexible; and the mind stay calm and focused during practice or competition”, Dr Prema said.
“When you follow yoga regularly, you learn to give your best performance without stress or anger. You begin to enjoy the game rather than worry about the result”, she said.
Yoga teaches you to work hard, stay dedicated and focus fully on your action — because the result will come in its own time.
“If you practice every day yoga, which is mastering the mind, then whatever the result may be, you stay balanced, happy and ready for the next challenge”, the expert yoga trainer said.
Vyaniti Yoga began its journey in 1996 aiming to bring awareness, health and balance into people’s lives through yoga. Founded in Oman, the initiative started as a small group of women practitioners.
Over the years, Vyaniti Yoga has evolved into a vibrant community serving all age groups — from children as young as six to senior citizens aged 85. What began as women’s wellness sessions has grown into an inclusive platform that welcomes men, youth, families and locals, each finding their unique path of healing through yoga.
Surya Namaskar — The 12 Steps to Good Health
Since 2012, Vyaniti Yoga has placed special emphasis on the practice of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) — a harmonious blend of movement, breath and mantra. This powerful 12-step sequence has become the cornerstone of the centre’s teaching, symbolising discipline, devotion and vitality.
Many local Omani participants have embraced Surya Namaskar to improve stamina and overall fitness — especially as preparation for mountain climbing, desert trekking and endurance events. Vyaniti’s teachings combine ancient tradition with modern relevance, proving that yoga is the key to a healthier and more resilient life in today’s fast-paced world.
Beyond physical fitness, Vyaniti Yoga has been a bridge of compassion and service. The organisation has actively collaborated with the Oman Cancer Association, offering yoga as a therapeutic and preventive tool for health and emotional balance.
In March 2018, Vyaniti created history by leading participants in a mass Surya Namaskar event with 500 participants, including locals trained for three months prior to the event, earning a place in the Limca Book of Records. This monumental gathering at Barr Al Jissah reflected unity, gratitude and reverence to the Sun — the symbol of life and energy.
