

MUSCAT: The Khoula Hospital organised its first Annual Scientific Research Day on Thursday under the auspices of Dr Saif bin Abdullah al Haddabi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Research and Innovation. The event was attended by Dr Rashid al Alawi, Director-General of Khoula Hospital, researchers and healthcare professionals from across Oman’s medical institutions.
In his opening remarks, Dr Sultan al Shaqsi, Chairman of the Research Ethics Committee at Khoula Hospital, emphasised the vital role of scientific research in advancing healthcare services and enhancing medical quality. He noted that research and evidence-based practice are essential for improving patient outcomes and achieving the national vision for excellence in healthcare.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr Abdullah al Alawi, Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Programme at the Oman Medical Specialty Board and Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine at the University Medical City. His lecture, titled “The Landscape of Medical and Scientific Research in the Age of Artificial Intelligence", explored how AI-driven technologies are reshaping medical research and transforming healthcare delivery through data-driven insights, precision diagnostics and improved treatment outcomes.
The event also featured a series of research presentations and poster sessions, showcasing studies conducted by Khoula Hospital’s medical, nursing and administrative teams. The research topics covered a range of areas, including clinical innovation, patient safety, healthcare management and service quality improvement.
The Annual Research Day aims to promote a culture of research and innovation within Khoula Hospital, providing a platform to highlight outstanding research efforts across various medical disciplines. It also seeks to encourage collaboration, professional growth and evidence-based practice among the hospital’s healthcare professionals.
