Muscat: Sayyid Najib bin Hilal al Busaidy, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, received the Omani sports delegation participating in the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games (Riyadh 2025), at the embassy headquarters in the capital, Riyadh.


Sayyid Najib congratulated the delegation and the Omani weightlifter Amer al Khanjari on winning two medals — silver and bronze — in the weightlifting competitions, expressing his pride in this achievement, which he described as “golden,” because of its great moral value for Oman in an Islamic forum that brings together the most prominent athletes in the world.


The meeting was attended by Abdullah bin Mohammed Bamakhalif, Secretary General of the Oman Olympic Committee, Moosa bin Khamis al Balushi, Deputy Head of Mission, Salem bin Mohammed al Busaidy, Director of Mission, Said bin Juma al Harrasi, Assistant Director of Mission, Said bin Darwish al Jarjashi, administrator, in addition to the administrator, coach, the weightlifting team and the media representatives of the mission.


Sayyid Najib expressed his pride in the achievement of weightlifter Amer al Khanjari, emphasising that this result is a significant accomplishment for Omani sports. He said, “I am very pleased to meet with the members of the Omani sports delegation today at the embassy, ​​and even more delighted by the achievement of one of our athletes – Amer al Khanjari – who won a silver and a bronze medal. For us, these two medals are worth their weight in gold, given the strong competition he faced from internationally renowned athletes.”

He added: “I was honoured to visit the athletes’ village in Riyadh and meet the Omani delegation there. I was impressed by the high spirits and great enthusiasm of our athletes in the various sports. I wish them all the best in the remaining competitions, and I wish the same for the rest of our athletes participating in this tournament and the upcoming championships.”


The ambassador affirmed that the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Riyadh and all its staff are fully prepared to provide all aspects of support and facilities to the sports delegation.


ESPORTS TEAM ENDS FOURTH


On Tuesday, Oman karate athlete Idris al Batrani concluded his participation in the Games after defeating Yemen's Walid al Najjar 9-0, before losing to Saudi Arabia's Saud al Bashir 3-1.


Oman's esports team also finished their campaign after a commendable performance, playing four matches: a 3-2 loss to Jordan, a 3-0 victory over Tajikistan, a 3-0 win against Morocco, and a 3-1 defeat to Jordan, ultimately finishing fourth in the competition after a hard-fought battle.
