The Government of the Sultanate of Oman has signed a landmark financing agreement with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to support the construction of the new Samayil Hospital in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate — a key milestone in Oman’s drive to enhance nationwide healthcare infrastructure.
The agreement was signed by Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Omani government and by Waleed bin Shamlan al Bahar, Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, representing the fund.
The new hospital aims to significantly strengthen healthcare services in the Wilayat of Samayil and surrounding areas, providing advanced medical care for citizens and residents alike.
The project will deliver a modern, integrated healthcare facility equipped with cutting-edge medical technologies and specialised departments to cater to diverse medical needs.
With a planned capacity of 170 beds — expandable to 300 — the hospital will be built on a total area of 250,000 square metres, with a built-up area of 65,804 square metres.
Once completed, the facility will ease the burden on referral hospitals in neighbouring governorates and ensure that residents of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate have better access to essential medical services closer to home.
This collaboration reflects Oman’s commitment to advancing its healthcare infrastructure in alignment with the strategic goals of Oman Vision 2040, which emphasises the development of a world-class healthcare system.
The project also aims to foster local medical expertise by creating training and employment opportunities for Omani professionals in the medical and nursing fields.
By strengthening healthcare capacity and promoting human capital development, the Samayil Hospital project underscores Oman’s broader efforts to build a more resilient and efficient healthcare network across all governorates — ensuring equitable access to quality care for every citizen. — ONA
