According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, two types of the virus exist: clade I and clade II. Both spread in the same way and can be prevented using similar methods.
More than 40,000 cases of clade I monkeypox have been reported in several countries in Central and Eastern Africa, while clade II cases continue to occur at low levels in many countries worldwide.
The symptoms are: It often begins with fever, headache, muscle aches and fatigue (similar to flu-like symptoms).
Followed by a distinct rash that can appear anywhere on the body, including the face, genitals and anus.
The rash progresses from macules papules vesicles pustules scabs.
It spreads from direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person, especially with a rash; touching contaminated items like bedding, towels, or clothing; and prolonged face-to-face contact via respiratory droplets.
The prevention tips include washing hands frequently with soap and water.
Avoid close physical contact with anyone showing Mpox symptoms.
Avoid touching contaminated objects.
Seek medical advice immediately if you have symptoms. Isolate yourself and cover any lesions to protect others.
