MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development and the Association for Children with Disability signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), to enhance social capital, training, scientific research, innovation, and raise awareness of issues concerning persons with disabilities.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry by Shaikh Rashid bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development. It was signed on behalf of the Association by Khadija bint Nasser al Saatiyah, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Association for Children with Disability.

The MoC aims to empower the workers in the boards of directors of civil society institutions to develop their leadership and administrative capabilities, and to increase the participation of person with disabilities in leadership and economic empowerment programmes, thereby contributing to enhancing their effective role in society.

The memorandum also seeks to support scientific research and studies related to disability issues, and to organise joint events, including conferences, seminars and workshops, that contribute to raising community awareness of persons with disabilities issues and promoting a culture of inclusion and comprehensive community participation.

The signing comes within the framework of the Ministry of Social Development's efforts to strengthen partnership with civil society institutions, support social capital, and build effective partnerships that contribute to empowering persons with disabilities and integrating them into various aspects of life. - ONA
