Oman showcases Smart City Vision at Barcelona Global Expo

MUSCAT: Oman shared its expertise and forward-thinking ideas at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), held in Barcelona, Spain, from November 4-6. The participation underscored Oman’s commitment to modernising its cities in line with Vision 2040.


Represented by Muscat Municipality, the Omani delegation was led by Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality. The global event, recognised as the world’s leading platform for urban innovation, brought together city leaders, industry experts, and policymakers to exchange insights and explore solutions for sustainable and resilient cities.


“The conference discussed innovative approaches to urban development and enhancing cities’ readiness for the future through the exchange of experiences and review of the latest global practices in smart cities,” said Al Humaidi.


Held at Fira de Barcelona, the conference covered key themes including digital transformation, sustainable mobility, clean energy, efficient governance and urban inclusion. This year’s edition featured more than 600 speakers, 1,000 exhibitors and 25,000 professional participants from around the world.


“We were able to share knowledge and gain valuable insights and innovative concepts from the three-day event, which brought together a diverse group of executives, city planners, academics and entrepreneurs,” Al Humaidi added.


The 2025 edition will focus on Artificial Intelligence, climate adaptation, sustainable water management and urban resilience, further shaping the global conversation on smart, sustainable cities.
