AL RUSTAQ: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has begun the rehabilitation of Al Hazm-Al Wushayl road in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq in South Al Batinah Governorate, on Sunday.
The road is approximately 11 kilometers long and the total cost is RO 6,157,608.
Engineer Muhannad bin Mubarak al Araimi, the project manager at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said that the project includes rehabilitation of the existing dual carriageway and widening the road shoulders from Al Hazm village through Al Shubaika and Al Misfah all the way to Al Wushayl village.
Once open, the road will shorten the distance and ease the traffic flow between the villages and the Wilayat centre. The project also includes the construction of two tunnels in Al Shubaika and Al Misfah, he said.
The design and implementation period for the project is 19 months, in addition to 60 days for preparations, totaling 570 days. The road will reduce accidents at dangerous intersections in the Al Shabika and Al Misfah areas, spur economic activities and support social development in the region, the official said.
The rehabilitation of the existing road from Al Hazm village to Al Wushayl village is part of the ministry’s ongoing plan to develop and improve the efficiency of the road network in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman Al Araimi. He added that the project represents a significant addition to the infrastructure in the South Al Batinah Governorate given its impact on improving traffic flow between the wilayats of Al Musannah and Al Rustaq and facilitating access to vital services and facilities.
