MUSCAT: The Social Protection Fund (SPF) has spotlighted one of its most compassionate initiatives — the Senior Benefit, which grants RO 115 per month to every Omani citizen aged 60 and above, as part of its ongoing mission to honour and support the nation’s elderly.
In an awareness post shared across its official platforms, the Fund noted that the benefit now covers more than 95 per cent of senior citizens nationwide, underscoring Oman’s commitment to ensuring dignity, financial stability, and inclusion for all its people.
The message — ‘Because the generation that built deserves to be appreciated’ — resonated deeply across Oman, where elders are regarded as pillars of wisdom, experience, and cultural identity.
Established under Royal Decree No 52/2023, the Senior Benefit is a cornerstone of the country’s comprehensive social protection framework, guaranteeing coverage for citizens from childhood to old age.
All Omani citizens reaching 60 years of age are eligible to receive the monthly allowance, regardless of employment or pension history — extending support to those who may have worked outside formal systems, including farmers, homemakers and small business owners.
The SPF explained that the allowance is managed digitally through an integrated platform connecting various government entities. This system ensures automatic eligibility verification and transparent, timely payments — reflecting Oman’s advancement toward smart governance and efficient public service delivery.
Experts have praised the programme for filling a critical gap in social security and redefining national protection to encompass both economic and emotional well-being.
The Fund continues to enhance public understanding through its official website, SPF.gov.om, which provides comprehensive information, FAQs and direct communication channels to help citizens access their entitlements easily.
The Senior Benefit stands as a symbol of national gratitude — acknowledging those who once built and nurtured the nation. It reflects Oman’s enduring promise under Oman Vision 2040 to build a just, inclusive and compassionate society where every citizen is valued and supported with dignity.
