The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Suhar recently organised a symposium titled 'Psychological Balance' under the auspices of Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah al Busaidy, Wali of Suhar.
The event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining mental and emotional stability as a foundation for personal growth, academic success and professional performance.
“The symposium reflected the university’s deep commitment to promoting psychological balance and emotional well-being within the academic community. It was inspiring to see such meaningful discussions that connected scientific understanding with real-life experiences. The participation of experts and students alike enriched the dialogue and emphasised the importance of self-awareness and inner peace. At the University of Technology and Applied Sciences – Suhar, we believe that mental wellness is not just support, but a foundation for excellence. This event truly embodied our vision of nurturing balanced, confident and resilient individuals," Dr Hilal bin Ali al Maqbali, Deputy Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Electronic Systems and Student Services, commented.
The symposium brought together experts, academics, and students to discuss various dimensions of psychological well-being and to explore practical strategies for achieving balance in everyday life. It featured three interactive workshops led by distinguished Omani specialists.
The first workshop, presented by Dr Yousuf al Attar, educational and family consultant and Executive Director of Tawazun Centre for Educational and Consulting Services, discussed the concept of psychological balance, influencing factors and strategies to achieve it. Dr Al Attar highlighted that balance requires conscious effort to manage emotions, set priorities and adopt healthy coping mechanisms in a rapidly changing world.
The second session, delivered by Dr Talal al Rawahi, educational consultant and TV and radio presenter, focused on relationships and social support and their role in enhancing psychological balance. He emphasised that strong social connections and a supportive environment can greatly influence emotional resilience and inner peace.
In the third workshop, Mahmood al Hasani, a psychological specialist, addressed the significance of psychological balance in modern life and its connection to study and work. He encouraged students to practice mindfulness, self-reflection and time management to maintain mental stability.
The event drew active participation from students and faculty members who engaged in discussions and shared personal reflections.
Ali al Hosni, a university student and one of the attendees, commented, “This symposium helped us realise that balance is not about eliminating stress, but about managing it wisely and caring for our mental health.”
The symposium concluded with a call to continue integrating mental health awareness into educational initiatives, reaffirming the university’s commitment to fostering a supportive and balanced learning environment.
