MUSCAT, NOV 2
ETCO Space, the company behind Oman’s first satellite ‘Aman-1’, announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Poland’s Wrocław University of Science and Technology, during a visit to Wrocław last week.
According to an official statement, the agreement will support knowledge transfer and research and development programmes in the field of Earth observation technologies and satellite data analytics.
“The partnership seeks to develop joint initiatives to transfer knowledge and train national specialists in several areas, including data analysis, remote sensing, artificial intelligence; and the operation and management of ground stations”, the company said.
“This step reinforces the company’s efforts in satellite-based Earth observation and supports the empowerment of Omani professionals in the sector, in line with Oman Vision 2040 objectives to enhance the Sultanate of Oman’s capabilities in space and AI technologies and to support national space infrastructure projects”, the statement added.
In November 2023, ETCO Space launched Oman’s first satellite ‘Aman-1’ in collaboration with Polish data analysis and solutions provider Tuatara and nanosatellite manufacturer SatRevolution. Data from the satellite is currently being used to monitor Oman’s natural gas transportation system, operated by OQ Gas Networks (OQGN).
Last year, the company also announced the establishment of a satellite manufacturing venture, “Spazers”, in partnership with SatRevolution and Tuatara. The joint venture is expected to manufacture satellites and build and operate ground stations in Oman and the wider Middle East.
