MUSCAT: A pioneering architectural concept combining geodesic domes with digital creativity is set to make its debut in Oman, as a team of Iranian engineers behind the Hemiball initiative plan to bring their futuristic designs to Muscat and beyond.
After five years of engineering and producing advanced geodesic domes, the company’s founders have identified Oman as an ideal destination to launch their gaming and content creation hub, marking a major step in their regional expansion strategy.
In an exclusive interview with the Observer, Mohammad Amin Anvari, Co-founder and Chairman of Hemiball said: “After nearly five years of developing, engineering and producing geodesic domes, we decided to expand into areas where these structures could serve not only as highly efficient architectural solutions but also as iconic and forward-looking landmarks”.
The decision to explore Oman follows extensive feasibility studies and collaborations with leading Iranian architects and engineers. The company’s executives view Oman as a stable, accessible and innovation-friendly environment — attributes that make it stand out in the region.
EXPLORING OPPORTUNITIES IN MUSCAT AND THE DESERT
As part of their first phase, the Hemiball team will visit Muscat from November 2 to 6 to attend the Project Oman Exhibition, a key platform for infrastructure and development ventures in the Sultanate of Oman. The team also plans to explore desert camps already utilising dome structures and meet with investment firms interested in cutting-edge architectural projects.
“During our visit, we aim to understand the local market, meet potential investors and observe existing uses of geodesic domes in Oman’s tourism landscape”, said Amir Anvari, CEO of Hemiball. “Our vision is to integrate this architectural form into creative industries such as gaming, which is growing rapidly worldwide”.
MERGING INNOVATION WITH CULTURE
According to the founders, Oman’s architectural heritage and modern aspirations make it a natural fit for dome-based designs. The country’s luxury desert camps have long incorporated such structures, blending functionality with cultural familiarity.
“Oman has shown a strong affinity for geodesic structures. These domes feel both familiar and innovative — reminiscent of the domes found in mosque architecture, yet reimagined in a modern and dynamic context”, said Abtin Shamsi, Business Manager.
The proposed gaming and content creation hub would not only serve as a venue for digital entertainment and production but also as a cultural landmark, merging technology with design inspired by the region’s architectural DNA.
SUSTAINABILITY AND ADAPTABILITY
Hemiball’s domes stand out for their energy efficiency, durability and adaptability. The company has engineered its designs to withstand extreme weather conditions while maintaining low energy consumption.
“Our structures are purpose-built to endure harsh climates”, explained Mohammad Amin. “We can integrate solar energy systems directly into the domes — and there’s no better place for solar potential than Oman”.
The modular design allows each dome to be customised based on client preferences — from protective coatings to choice of materials and aesthetic features. This flexibility opens opportunities for tourism, entertainment and green infrastructure development.
FUTURE VISION: GREEN VILLAGES AND SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE
Looking beyond the gaming and content creation hub, Hemiball envisions contributing to Oman’s sustainability goals through eco-friendly and near-zero carbon developments.
“In the medium term, we plan to expand towards green village projects that leverage modular, self-sustaining architecture”, Mohammad Amin said. “This aligns with Oman’s growing focus on renewable energy and sustainable living”.
A PLATFORM FOR REGIONAL COLLABORATION
Hemiball’s leadership team — comprising Mohammad Amin Anvari (Co-founder and Chairman), Amir Anvari (CEO) and Abtin Shamsi (Business Manager) — expressed strong interest in partnering with Omani investors, developers and innovation agencies. They emphasised that collaboration is key to adapting their designs to the local context.
“With our team of Iranian elites, all among the country’s top minds and based on the solid experience we’ve gained in production, we hope to expand in alignment with Oman’s needs and opportunities”, Mohammad Amin concluded.
