MUSANDAM: The Environment Authority (EA) organised a special training activity for girls and women as part of the Marine Mammal Survey Project in Musandam Governorate.
The initiative comes within the EA’s efforts to enhance community environmental awareness and promote women’s participation in specialised environmental activities.
The three-day event included three creative workshops: painting on eco-friendly bags, transforming oil containers into artistic pieces featuring whale and dolphin illustrations, and crafting keychains and bracelets with environmental symbols. The programme concludes with an exhibition showcasing the artistic creations of the participants.
Eng Aida al Jabri, Director of the Marine Mammal Survey Project in Musandam, explained that this activity is part of the project’s accompanying initiatives, which aim to study the biodiversity of marine mammals along the governorate’s coasts. She added that engaging women and girls at this stage helps expand community awareness about the importance of these species and their role in the marine ecosystem.
Al Jabri affirmed that through this initiative, EA seeks to establish a network of women and girls who contribute to spreading environmental awareness and fostering a sense of responsibility towards protecting marine mammals and preserving their natural habitats. She praised the high level of creativity and enthusiasm demonstrated by the participants during the workshops.
The event concluded by emphasising the importance of continuing such community-based programmes that connect art with the environment, instilling in future generations the values of sustainability and responsibility towards the nation’s natural resources reflecting the Environment Authority’s commitment to supporting national efforts to protect wildlife and conserve biodiversity in the Sultanate of Oman.
