MUSCAT: Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, met on Sunday with Dr Amer Bisat, Lebanon’s Minister of Economy and Trade, to discuss ways of strengthening economic and investment cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Lebanese Republic.

Held at the Ministry’s headquarters, the meeting focused on expanding trade, investment and industrial collaboration to serve mutual interests. Both sides explored new initiatives to enhance economic integration, increase trade exchange and establish direct sea and air shipping lines between the two countries.

Discussions also covered maximising the benefits of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area Agreement, encouraging joint projects between Omani and Lebanese companies; and developing re-export opportunities. The ministers also reviewed a proposal to establish a joint Omani-Lebanese Business Council aimed at deepening ties between the private sectors of both nations.

Talks highlighted opportunities in industrial and logistics cooperation, particularly in enabling Lebanese companies to benefit from Oman’s economic and industrial zones for storing and re-exporting Lebanese food products. The two sides agreed to form working groups to explore import and export prospects and identify new areas of collaboration.

Both ministers underscored the importance of the upcoming Omani-Lebanese Forum and accompanying trade exhibition, scheduled for Monday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event will bring together representatives from both the public and private sectors to promote direct communication between business leaders and highlight investment opportunities. Several memoranda of understanding are also expected to be signed to strengthen economic relations.

Al Yousef affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman places great value on fostering strong economic partnerships with friendly and brotherly nations, including Lebanon. He described the meeting as an important step towards expanding future cooperation and promoting trade and investment ties that serve the shared aspirations of both countries. — ONA
