MUSCAT: The Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), in cooperation with the Oman Lipid and Atherosclerosis Association, organised an awareness campaign titled 'Health in October' to mark World Health Days.

The two-day campaign, held at Muscat Mall in Al Seeb, aims to promote health awareness among community members and encourage healthy lifestyles. It also seeks to strengthen the culture of disease prevention by focusing on key health issues highlighted during October, contributing to a healthier society.

Resident physicians from OMSB’s training programmes in various medical specialities participated, including ophthalmology, orthopaedics, family medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery, haematology, paediatrics, psychiatry and dermatology.

The campaign featured an educational exhibition with advisory booths offering free medical checkups, including blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, BMI and vision tests. Visitors also received hands-on training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Sections such as Family Medicine emphasised physical activity and nutrition, while Paediatrics focused on hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder, stuttering, and polio.

The Ophthalmology corner, supported by the Oman Optical Club and University Medical City, offered detailed eye screenings and preventive guidance.

Orthopaedics experts addressed osteoporosis and arthritis prevention, while Dermatology specialists raised awareness of psoriasis and skin cancer. The General Surgery corner highlighted breast cancer awareness as part of the Pink October initiative, and Haematology and Mental Health specialists provided insights on hereditary blood diseases and elderly wellness.

The campaign also featured the 'Wiqaa' media initiative launched by OMSB earlier this month under the slogan 'Your Awareness is Prevention.' Through social media, publications, and radio broadcasts, the initiative promotes prevention as a way of life.

The event was sponsored by Daleel Petroleum and Oman LNG, supporting OMSB’s efforts to enhance public health and community awareness. — ONA
