Sohar, Seeb lead their groups in volleyball league

The preliminary round of the First Division Volleyball League for the 2025–2026 sports season concluded on Friday evening, with four matches played across Groups A and B, showcasing high levels of performance and intense competition among the clubs ahead of the final stage of the championship.


GROUP A


In Group A, Masirah secured a well-deserved straight-sets victory over Soham (3–0) after delivering a balanced performance in both defence and attack. The set scores were (25–21, 25–15, 25–21). This win reaffirmed Masirah’s full readiness for the next stage, giving the team a strong morale boost at the end of the preliminary phase.


In the group’s second encounter, Sohar and Majees produced one of the most thrilling matches of the round, which extended to a full five sets. Sohar ultimately triumphed 3–2 with set scores of (23–25, 25–20, 15–25, 25–21, 15–8). Both teams displayed a high level of competitiveness and determination, but Sohar’s experience made the difference in the decisive set, securing their place at the top of Group A.


GROUP B


In Group B, Seeb dominated Al Bashayer with a clean 3–0 win, taking the sets (27–25, 25–18, 25–18). Seeb thus continued its perfect winning streak through the preliminary round.


The other match featured Salalah against Taqah, where Salalah managed to come from behind after losing the first set to claim a 3–1 victory (23–25, 26–24, 25–21, 25–23). Salalah’s players put on a strong display, particularly in the third and fourth sets, excelling with quick attacks and an effective blocking wall.


STANDINGS GROUP A


Group A concluded with Sohar leading the standings with 15 points, having won five out of six matches. Masirah followed in second place with 11 points after a consistent and impressive performance throughout the rounds, while Majees ranked third with 10 points. Soham came in fourth with 6 points, and Al Shabab finished last without any points after a string of poor results.


The group witnessed fierce competition from the outset, but Sohar and Masirah emerged as the main contenders to continue their pursuit of the title.


STANDINGS GROUP B


In Group B, Seeb finished the preliminary stage at the top with a perfect record of 18 points from six consecutive wins, confirming its dominance. Al Bashayer took second place with 12 points after delivering consistent performances that secured its qualification alongside Seeb to the final round. Salalah finished third with 6 points from two wins, while Taqah ended bottom of the table without any points after losing all six of its matches.
