The Royal Cavalry Polo Team secured a thrilling 4–3 victory over the Qatar Polo Club in a friendly
encounter held at the Royal Cavalry Polo Complex in Al Safnat. The match took place as part of the joint training camp between the two sides in preparation for upcoming regional and international
tournaments.
The match was held under the auspices of Eng Hilal bin Mohammed al Waeli, Head of Horse, Camel
and Royal Gardens Affairs at the Royal Court Affairs, and attended by Colonel Ahmed bin Khalfan al
Lamki, Acting Director-General of the Royal Cavalry and Fouad al Mudahka, Director-General of the
Qatar Polo Club, along with several equestrian enthusiasts and polo fans.
The game featured four competitive chukkas, with Sameer al Rahbi scoring twice in the opening period to give the Royal Cavalry an early lead. Qatar Polo Club responded strongly in the second chukka, equalising through Ahmed al Badi and Saleh al Marri. The momentum shifted again in the third chukka when Mazen al Zadjali capitalised on a swift counterattack to make it 3–2, before extending the lead with a brilliant goal early in the final chukka. Despite a late effort from Badr al Marri, who netted Qatar’s third goal, the Royal Cavalry held firm to claim a well-deserved 4–3 victory.
Between the chukkas, spectators were treated to a special equestrian showcase featuring presentations of pure Omani horse breeds, followed by traditional riding performances, including Al Tahwirib and horse sleeping displays unique disciplines that highlight Oman’s rich equestrian heritage.
This victory continues the Royal Cavalry’s string of successes in international polo, the team notably
captured the 2023 International Polo Championship in France and finished runner up at the 2024 Doha Open, reinforcing its growing presence and competitive excellence on the regional and global stage.
The Royal Cavalry Polo Team will continue its preparation programme for upcoming international
tournaments, aiming to further strengthen Oman’s position in global equestrian sports and uphold the Sultanate’s proud tradition of horsemanship and sporting achievement.
