The Dhahirah Municipality announced its intention to contract with citizens under a service provision agreement to carry out animal control operations targeting stray animals within the governorate’s wilayats (Ibri, Dhank, and Yanqul).

According to the municipality, the initiative aims to regulate and manage stray animals and ensure safety and cleanliness in public areas.

The municipality specified that applicants must meet several conditions. They must be Omani nationals residing in Dhahirah Governorate, enjoy good conduct, and possess experience in handling animals such as camels and livestock. Applicants should also be physically fit and capable of performing field duties, must not be employed by any public or private entity, and should hold a valid light-vehicle driving licence.

The Dhahirah Municipality stated that the deadline for submitting applications is Wednesday, October 29.

In various governorates, citizens complain about the dangers of stray animals leading to tragic accidents.

However, municipal authorities are making efforts to solve the problem by setting up designated places for breeders.

Despite the government's efforts, citizens believe that implementing the laws requires strict oversight and to ensure that breeders do not leave their animals loose.

In 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources issued Ministerial Resolution No (485/2020) to regulate the impounding stray or neglected animals. The resolution stipulated a daily fine of RO 150 for each camel or horse, RO 50 for cow and RO 10 for goat or sheep. The decision also imposed administrative fines on owners of violating animals, amounting to RO 100 per day for each camel or horse, RO 50 for cow, and RO 30 for each goat or sheep. This fine is doubled in the event of a repeat violation during the same year.
