GENEVA: The State Council participated in the meetings of the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its accompanying committees, being held in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 19 to 23.


The State Council’s participation in the 151st IPU Assembly reflects its commitment to fostering its presence in international parliamentary forums and exchanging legislative and institutional expertise with national and regional parliaments.


Maha al Lamki and Eng Nahla al Hamdi, members of the State Council, participated in the Women Parliamentarians Forum (2025), held as part of the General Assembly’s activities.


The forum discussed a number of vital topics related to empowering women in parliamentary work and enhancing their role in decision-making through a set of topics most notably: strengthening women’s parliamentary leadership, following up on progress towards gender equality in parliamentary work and contributing to the work of the General Assembly from a gender perspective.

In a dialogue session titled ‘Transformational Leadership, Building a More Equitable World’, Maha delivered a speech in which she highlighted the qualitative gains achieved by Omani women, emphasising that the Sultanate of Oman’s future vision is based on the principle of full partnership between women and men in building society and national development.


Khalid bin Ahmed al Saadi, Secretary-General of the State Council, participated in the activities of the Association of Secretaries-General of National Parliaments, held as part of the activities of the IPU General Assembly.


The meeting discussed a number of organisational and technical topics related to developing parliamentary performance, most notably current issues and innovations in parliamentary work, and measures taken to mitigate the risks of future events that could prevent parliaments from convening, in light of lessons learned from recent global crises. — ONA
