The two-day workshop titled 'Innovation: Inspiring Ideas and Sustaining Impact' under the theme 'From Initiation to Success' concluded on Monday.


The workshop was held under the auspices of Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.


The workshop aimed to equip healthcare professionals with the tools to turn innovative ideas into real projects that can enhance the health sector and support sustainable development.


Participants learned to think creatively, protect their ideas and understand the role of intellectual property in developing effective solutions.


The first day featured practical sessions on healthcare innovation, digital tools, design thinking and project presentation, led by experts including Dr Said al Rawahi, Dr Fatma al Rawahi, Dr Mona al Alawi, Dr Issam al Lawati and Nibras al Mahrami.


In his opening remarks, Dr Said al Rawahi, Head of the Research and Community Service Department, Oman College of Health Sciences, emphasised that fostering innovation aligns with Oman Vision 2040’s goals of building a creative and skilled health workforce.


He added that innovation and intellectual property are central to achieving sustainable healthcare solutions.


The second day focused on intellectual property rights and patents, covering protection of inventions, patent applications and funding options, including crowdfunding through the Wadeea platform. Participants also learned about support from the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprise Development in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.


Dr Badria al Rahbi, Senior Lecturer, Oman College of Health Sciences, encouraged participants to pursue their ideas and collaborate with experts to bring them to fruition.


Ibtisam al Shidhani, Lean Management Manager at the Directorate-General of Health Services, highlighted the synergy between lean management and innovation in improving healthcare services.


The workshop concluded with discussions on measuring innovation in Oman and strategies to strengthen the national system of creativity and research. The event underscored the importance of collaboration between educational and healthcare institutions in building a knowledge-based, sustainable healthcare system for Oman’s future.
